Malvern F. King, Jr. was honored for 50 years as an attorney at the recent annual meeting of the 14th Judicial District Bar and Durham County Bar Association.

Malvern King concentrates in the areas of corporate law, commercial transactions and estate planning and administration. Many of his clients have developed close business relationships with Mal, working with him over the years as their businesses prospered and their legal needs evolved. With his broad understanding of commercial law, he’s known as one of the preeminent business attorneys in Durham and surrounding counties. In 2007, he was inducted into the North Carolina Bar Association General Practice Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors in the profession.

Mal received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation from law school, he served on active duty with the U.S. Naval Security Group and retired as a Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve Judge Advocate Generals Corp. Mal was a founding partner at Pulley, Watson, King & Lischer, P.A. for over 30 years before joining Crabtree, Carpenter & Connolly, PLLC when the firm began in 2015.

Crayons2Calculators — You Can Help!

Back-to-school time will soon be upon the children and families in Durham. Purchase of school supplies is a regular exercise at the end of each summer, but not for all students whose families are unable to afford supplies. In many Durham County schools, that task falls upon their teachers in order to provide needed supplies in their classrooms.

You can help! This year, Crabtree, Carpenter & Connolly is participating in Crayons2Calculators Fill That Bus! supply drive. From July 24 – August 20 you can donate school supplies or make a financial contribution to Crayons2Calculators.

Mr. Malvern King, Of Counsel with CCC, has been working with the Durham Rotary Clubs on the Crayons2Calculators Fill That Bus! supply drive for many years through the SW Durham Rotary Club, where he was and is a charter member since 1979.

This year Mr. King is personally working directly with Crayons2Calculators, because he believes “that public school teachers should not have to go into their own pockets to purchase school supplies for students whose parents cannot afford them.”

Mr. King has distributed six collection bins to locations around Durham where you can drop off school supplies, including one at the offices of CCC located at 1011 Broad Street.

If you prefer to make a financial donation or learn more about the program and supplies needed, please visit http://www.crayons2calculators.org

Welcome Diego!

Please welcome Diego Cervantes, a sophomore at Durham School for the Arts, who recently joined our firm as in intern through Partners for Youth Opportunities. The organization partners with the community to provide Durham youth with opportunities through mentoring, employment and educational support.

When Mal King volunteered Crabtree, Carpenter & Connolly to sponsor a student, he learned about Diego’s interest in working in a law firm.  Diego now comes in four days a week and is learning a lot about the law practice every day.  “He is a hard worker and we are excited to have him as part of our family,” said Angie Elliott, Paralegal and Office Manager.

Attorney at Law Magazine's Law Firm of the Month

We are excited to be featured as Law Firm of the Month in the latest edition of Attorney at Law Magazine North Carolina Triangle Edition.

"One ingredient in a kettle by itself is okay but when you add lots of ingredients and stir them all together you've got a pretty tasty stew," said Durham Attorney Charlie Carpenter, referencing the formation of Crabtree, Carpenter & Connolly, PLLC.

“Working out is a part of my every day routine,” said Mal King, attorney at CCC.  Last year Mal was in the Top Ten Users of the Lakewood YMCA in Durham, and this year they gave him a “Frequency of Use Award”. He essentially goes to the Y every weekday morning and works out before he comes into the office as well as sometimes on Saturday. “I don’t think that it’s a superlative award, just a Creature of Habit recognition,” said Mal.

You are an inspiration to all of us, Mal!
